Dwayne
Tharpe
Sensei Dwayne Tharpe has been
involved in the Martial Arts since 1974. In 1980, he became a
member of the Christian Karate Association and Shuri-Ryu
Karate-Do. He achieved his Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) in
1987. Sensei Tharpe has been blessed with the opportunity to
study under the founders of the Shuri-Ryu style and is a member of
both the American Budokai International and the International
Shuri-Ryu Association. He is a multi-national champion in
Tournament competition. In 2005 the founder of the Christian
Karate Association, Shihan Lemuel Miller (7th Dan,
Shuri-Ryu), named Sensei Tharpe as the new
CKA Director.
Through Martial Arts, Sensei
Tharpe learned respect and discipline. As a quiet, shy
child, Martial Arts helped give him self-confidence. It was
while attending Martial Arts classes at a local church that he
was led to Christ.
Sensei
Tharpe hopes to provide a positive atmosphere for
children and adults to participate in such a rewarding
activity.
Most recently, Sensei
Tharpe was awarded the
Certificate of Superior Leadership at the Great American Outdoor
Camp 2007 by the American Budokai International. This award is
presented to individuals who are recognized as an outstanding
example of dedication and discipline that has demonstrated
to his Instructors and peers and whose approach to training
exemplifies the traits of a disciplined martial artist, setting
the standard for all martial artists in the pursuit of
excellence.

Senior Instructor, Shane Wise
Shane Wise has been
involved in the Martial Arts since 1985. He started his
Martial Arts training in Yoshukai, under the instruction of
Shihan Mike Culbreth. In 1993, Shane won the National title
for youth underbelt in the U.S.Y.K.A. tournament circuit.
Shane has since competed numerous times over the years placing
highly in tournaments all around the country. In 2002, Shane
began his training under the instruction of Dwayne Tharpe with
the Christian Karate Association in the Shuri-Ryu system.
Also, Shane has trained in Mixed Martial Arts
and is currently our Senior Instructor here
at the Christian Karate Association.

Assistant Instructor, Emily Tharpe
Emily Tharpe has been
involved in the Martial Arts since 2000. She started her
training right here at CKA Headquarters under the instruction
of Dwayne Tharpe. Emily has extensive training in the style of
Shuri-Ryu and Jiu- Jitsu. She also is the lead instructor for
Tiger and Dragon Programs at our Dojo and also our satellite
school at Northside Methodist Academy where she teaches an
after school program. | |
